I finally managed to figure it out. I used the Offline Instructions above. So I downloaded the "Adobe Downloader" tool linked above and used that to install the latest version of InDesign. I then opened the icon with the spanner/screwdriver on it and entered my mac password. Then I used the Adobe Activation Tool (2.1.2) and had to navigate inside the InDesign package in the Applications folder to get to "Adobe InDesign 2026.app" inside that package. After activation, everything worked. Hope this helps some people who are confused.
